St Petersburg – 2nd day audio

23 Feb

A walk around the Hermitage State Museum in St Petersburg with the booming of a large sound system outside in Palace Square to celebrate 23rd February (locally known as Men’s Day…)

More Men’s Day celebrations as Palace Square erupts to the sound of Russians re-enacting various battles in their history.

This is a group of army cadets singing on their way up Gorokhovaya Ulitsa.

What’s been really interesting today has been the similarity between two very different sounds we heard today, one this morning and one this evening. We’ll not tell you what the sound is as we’d like people to have a guess so please add to the comments underneath. Here are the two sounds – try to think about what is similar about both sounds:

Sound 1

Sound 2

-Pete

Great to have all these pictures and sounds coming through in (nearly) real time! Makes it really alive… Looks bloody cold though!!!

Hi guys- nice recordings… my guess is the first sound is Ross or Pete hitting something off the frozen river/ sea- i.e. stomping on ice and snow. The second one sounds like distant fireworks. Both have rather interesting sound spectrums… similar rhythm too??…

Sound 1 is ice cracking when people are walking over

Sound 2 fireworks display in distance
